Gary Bigeni MBFWA 2012

This was the first show that I attended at MBFWA both this year and ever. I was crammed at the last minute in the very small Tent, walking in some new heels (a big mistake I know but they were so pretty) and going over everything I needed to remember to do throughout the day e.g. making sure all the social networking was sorted on my phone, remembering to make notes and most importantly not to drink more then two glasses of wine, so you could say I wasn't in the best of moods. But thankfully this show was definitely worth it.

Blue seems to dominate Gary's life from his collection to his hair and this year was no exception. From true blue to aqua Gary definitely had all the moodiest of shades on his mind but in stark contrast to other collections he also brought in a lot of other colours and most surprising some very busy prints.

Although much more subdued than the vast numbers of prints seen throughout the week the print was also quite in your face ranging from 3D square pattern in both all blue and a mix of tans to bubbles blending the colours, as well as a dull orange, together all of which invoked the same 70's feel that Bigeni's blue strips(which also made a comeback this time with some pale tan) from his Spring 2012 did.

Like with all good collections the details or the little injections were the real points of interest. Leather, though appearing in large parts and sometimes encompassing whole looks, was used sparling in sleeves and in thick belt shaped chunks on the waist which were then layered with thin actual belts in bright blue (as seen in the below photo taken by Terry from Scenes of Sydney and On The Streets of Sydney) creating a new take on the double-belted look. Sportswear influenced mesh also made an appearance in both big and small form adding an extra edge and modern appeal to the quite polished and retro printed pieces.

All and all Gary's collection was a great mix of what you would expect from him, the interesting and what you can actually see yourself and others (including maybe your mum) wearing.
