Watson x Watson MBFWA 2012

Weeks and weeks before fashion week I already had ideas about what shows I was looking forward too and would be the most talked about. Of course there was the big names like Romance was Born, Ellery and Oroton but due to pull out of Dion Lee and Josh Goot and my love of the new there was also quite a number of small labels that made my invisible list; one of those being Watson x Watson.

Only a year old this itchy baby of label run by sisters Somer and Liberty Watson was a big talking point even before there runway debut showing how far the label, which is already stocked in 50 retailers, has spread in such a short time. With such hype Watson's first MBFWA collection could of either fallen flat or amazed. Luckily, it did the latter.

Clean lines, modern takes of classics, prints and the right blend between girly and street made this collection easily one of the most accessible and wearable of the week. It's the type of fashion you can actually see yourself and others wearing any day of the week without being bored. Starting with basics like pink knits, cute dresses and cropped pants the Watson sisters then injected shiny and sparkly fabrics, fur, leather, army greens, subtle floral prints and structure in bright white to make the collection seem both fresh and what girls seriously want to wear.

This wearable fresh of the collection can make it easy to understand why the brands being labelled as the next big thing by both domestic and international media. Afterall, it was Sass & Bide's wearable bohemianism and Kusbi's edgy street vibe that pushed both labels and modern Australian fashion into the full front.

My advice for Watson x Watson: Watch this space.
