Young Hearts (Run free)

All throughout fashion month I felt like my childhood was coming alive once more. Carven had expensive versions of those black elastic chokers that you used to get free on the front of magazines, Rag & Bone had very cropped high necked tank tops that looked like they were made for Sporty Spice and Alexander Wang had "Parental Advisory" jumpers. Looking at the Spring 2014 collections made me feel like I was back in 1998 playing Spice World on my Playstation with my hair in Gwen Stefani mini buns and glittery jelly sandals on my feet.  But nothing screamed so much like the 90's of my childhood than Henry Holland's tough Mexico City/Venice beach homegirls inspired collection and the film it seemed to play homage to Romeo + Juliet.

From the Latin American religious imagery so reminiscent of the Hawaiian shirts favoured by Romeo and the rest of the Montague's to mix of the very girly good hem lines mixed with gold jewellery and sports wear inspired accessories like baseball caps the collection took me back to the first time I watched Baz Luhrmann's 90's masterpiece and my favourite scene: Mercutio belting out Young Hearts in full drag while Romeo wonders the party as high as a kite.
