Fairytale Valentine's

No matter how much they may be tomboys, refuse Barbie's and deny it every little girl (and boy really) loves a good fairytale and really I wasn't that different except that it wasn't the happy endings that gained my attention but something a lot more dark and sinister.

You see it was always the more tragic tales where the villains were truly terrifying and there was some degree, be it permanent or not, that proved to be my favourites. As well as probably being a field day for a psychologist as I've gotten older it has fuelling my love history as well as helping define my taste in poetry and almost predominantly in art.

Even as an adult I love a good tale of love, magic, death and the unreal and although I love many types and movements of art I am always drawn back to the works of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and there associates.

Potent, lush, symbolic, detailed and mythical while also being realistic the works of the brotherhood and those they directly influenced are a perfect combination of the fairytale characterises and stories I loved when I was younger and the poetry, literature and historic eras I adore now. Really they represent basically what I feel and define as romantic.

So as a little Valentine's Day/Singles Awareness Day treat here is some my favourite works from the brotherhood and alike featuring some of favourite fictional and fictional ladies.
