Alexander Wang SS 13

Like Helmut Lang's foray into Phillip Lim and Proenza Schouler  earlier in the week Alexander Wang seemed to take more then just a little inspiration from his fellow designers for his latest collection. There is a little of one of my local favourites Dion Lee in the form of cut outs of nude mesh and the shoes look more then a little like  Tufi Duek from SS 2011's strapped knee high heeled sandals. But still, like with Helmut Lang, I still like this collection at least in comparison to Wang's last two efforts. Even with the glow in the dark gimmick and the almost blatant copies this collection did do something new, at least when it came to Wang whose collections often fall too heavy into styled not designed and sporty categories for me.

The super shiny silver, the ultra white paired with the swirled cut outs, the mixed fabrics and the sleek lines blended with boxy shapes may be mostly what Wang is known for but it also comes across surprising refreshing particularly the last few looks with their lack of boxy, oversized pieces and cut outs that are held together with fishing line that seem to be floating on the models body like a strategically placed sheet.
