Picnic at Hanging Rock.

I will freely admit to not being the most patriotic Australian. I don't enjoy beer, sausages and watching Friday night football and you will not see me covered in flags come January 26. But I do take pride in (most) Australian films even if the some of the best of late are all about criminals and/or psychopaths (which I can safely say most Australian's are not).

Although I love a lot of Australian films there is one that truly stands out not just for its story but its aesthetic qualities: Picnic at Hanging Rock. Next to My Brilliant Career, Picnic at Hanging Rock is one the most gorgeous films with the scenes almost looking like oil paintings furthering the eerie nature of the story.

It's beautiful, both aesthetically and in plot, and I recommend it to everyone. Just don't be surprised if you feel like dressing in old petticoats and carry a lace umbrella around.
